Astrid Weissenborn-García was born in 1964 in Germany where she received her training as a sculptor and studied Waldorf Education and Teacher Training in the area of Plastic Arts. After an inspiring stay in Peru, first as a tourist and later working and living there, she moved to Spain with her young family in 1992. Nowadays,
in addition to her personal artistic and artisanal creation, Astrid offers a variety of workshops; artisanal felt workshops, drawing and clay modeling workshops in Waldorf Teacher Training Programs, as well as giving wood and artisanal felt workshops for the mentally and physically handicapped since 2007.
Her artistic quest in recent years has been oriented towards uniting the beautiful with the practical. Her motto, ‘Allow yourself something to bring beauty to your day to day’’ is reflected again and again in all her creations ... in her decorative painting of spaces, in the beauty and utility of her unique artisanal felt creations and garments, as well as in YolSandals; ‘A sculpture for your feet’.

The Project that Brings Them Together
The marvelous project of YolSandals came into being fueled by the desire, shared by both Lina and Astrid, to bring the benefits of Zonal Reflexology to others. It was precisely after receiving a reflexology session from Lina that Astrid had the idea of looking for a way to prolong the beneficial effects. She wanted to create something that would stimulate the sole of the foot and could be used on a daily basis without having to set aside any extra time. It soon became clear that this would have to be either a clog, a flip-flop or a sandal.
Lina and Astrid agreed from the start that Lina would bring her well-founded knowledge and therapeutic expertise to the development of the footwear and Astrid, as an experienced sculptor, would create the effective form under Lina’s guidance. Then, once the prototype was developed, Lina would provide ongoing, expert therapeutic input and Astrid would handle the production and sales sides.
After two years of intense work and many, many meetings to study, modify and improve the proposed models, Lina was able to give the ‘Green light’ to the production of YolSandals,
Supervising the production, Astrid has remained true to her original goals of creating an environmentally friendly sandal, made-in-Spain, and with replaceable, customized straps. More colours, materials and different ways of wearing YolSandals are in the pipeline.
